R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Kingwood Park High School is hosting a basketball |
|
game on May 5, 2011, to raise awareness about helmet safety and to |
|
support the recovery of Kingwood resident Thomas Joseph Stanton II; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Dr. Robert Stanton and Terri Stanton, |
|
Joseph Stanton attended Kingwood Park High and was a member of the |
|
swimming and football teams; on June 3, 2010, he suffered a |
|
traumatic brain injury when he was skateboarding without a helmet; |
|
although he survived, he faces a long and difficult recovery; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton's family members and friends have |
|
created the Team Joseph Stanton II Trust to raise funds for his care |
|
and to highlight the importance of wearing a helmet during such |
|
activities as skateboarding and bicycling; and |
|
WHEREAS, The charity basketball game on May 5 will include |
|
the superintendent of the Humble Independent School District, |
|
members of the school board, State Representative Dan Huberty, and |
|
other civic leaders, with the proceeds going to support the work of |
|
the TJS Trust; and |
|
WHEREAS, This event provides a meaningful reminder that |
|
wearing helmets saves lives while also offering much-needed |
|
assistance to a member of the Kingwood community, and this |
|
admirable initiative is indeed deserving of support; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize May 5, 2011, as Helmet Safety Day and |
|
extend to Joseph Stanton and his family sincere best wishes for his |
|
full recovery; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Stanton family as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
