R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Van Van Osdall of Houston commemorated a remarkable
  milestone in her life on February 20, 2011, when she celebrated her
  100th birthday; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Akron, Ohio, in 1911 to Belle and Harry
  Dellenberger, she married Fred Van Osdall in 1936 and came to
  Houston with him in 1950; the couple shared more than six decades
  together, until Mr. Van Osdall's passing in 1997, and they became
  the parents of three children, John, Christine, and Mary Jane;
  through the passing years, Mrs. Van Osdall has had the pleasure of
  welcoming into her family six grandchildren and eight
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, In 1960, she helped to found the Braes Republican
  Women organization and served as its president in 1963, 1967, and
  1980; the group contributed to the successful election in 1961 of
  John Tower, the first Republican U.S. senator from Texas since
  Reconstruction, and was also instrumental in the election of future
  U.S. senator Kay Bailey Hutchison to the state legislature; Mrs.
  Van Osdall still participates in the group, which is thought to be
  the oldest Republican women's club active in Harris County today;
  moreover, she volunteered for many years in the Methodist Hospital
  System, and since 1951, she has been a member of Bethany United
  Methodist Church, where she participated in Sunday school and other
  church programs; and
         WHEREAS, Van Van Osdall has witnessed a panorama of change
  during a historic century, and her 100th birthday offers a fitting
  opportunity to remind her of the special place she holds in the
  hearts of her friends and loved ones; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Van Van Osdall on her 100th
  birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Van Osdall as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
