R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A delegation from the Texas Council of Teachers of
  English Language Arts is visiting the State Capitol on
  March 24, 2011, for their first Legislative Advocacy Day; and
         WHEREAS, Representing nearly 1,500 members statewide, TCTELA
  is dedicated to advancing the literacy of all Texas students; to
  meet that worthwhile goal, the group is working to create a network
  of professionals, provide research-based development
  opportunities, and enhance public understanding of the connection
  between teacher knowledge and student learning; and
         WHEREAS, TCTELA affiliates have access to valuable resources
  on service-learning, cross-content curricula, social issues, and
  diverse cultures, and they are kept up to date through a quarterly
  newsletter, Texas Voices, and an informative online community; the
  organization also publishes a peer-reviewed journal, English in
  Texas, and advocates for responsible, pedagogically sound
  decisions regarding literacy; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, TCTELA has been a staunch
  supporter of the educational community, and those charged with the
  important work of teaching and inspiring our children continue to
  benefit from its efforts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Council of Teachers of
  English Language Arts on the occasion of its Legislative Advocacy
  Day and extend to all those in attendance best wishes for a
  productive and memorable visit to the State Capitol; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
