  H.R. No. 1006

R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The San Antonio Youth Council of the NAACP is
  hosting its 12th annual Youth Image Awards Banquet on April 2, 2011,
  and this event provides an ideal opportunity to honor this
  noteworthy organization; and
         WHEREAS, In 1935, Juanita Jackson, a youth delegate to the
  NAACP convention in St. Louis, delivered a stirring address calling
  for the creation of a department for young people; she was asked to
  join the association's staff and guided the formation of its Youth
  and College Division, a national program supporting the NAACP's
  fight for equality and justice; members of the division went on to
  play important roles in the civil rights movement, and many became
  leaders in the organization, their communities, and the nation; and
         WHEREAS, The NAACP today has one of the largest organized
  groups of young people of any secular organization in the country;
  in high school and college chapters and in youth councils, more than
  30,000 members work to advance social justice by addressing issues
  at the local and national levels, including education, economic
  opportunity, health, juvenile justice, and voter empowerment;
  youth council members develop an awareness of problems affecting
  African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities, learn how
  to advance harmonious cooperation among peoples, and participate in
  leadership and activism training; in recent years, the San Antonio
  Youth Council has benefited the community through such projects as
  collecting food bank contributions and gathering and donating books
  to students in the "Reading is Power" campaign; and
         WHEREAS, In order to meet the challenges that lie ahead, the
  Lone Star State will need new leaders who are dedicated to building
  a bright future for all its citizens, and through their commitment
  to the goals of the NAACP, the members of the San Antonio Youth
  Council have demonstrated an admirable willingness to step forward
  and take on important civic responsibilities; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the San Antonio Youth Council of the
  NAACP on its 12th annual Youth Image Awards Banquet and extend to
  its members sincere best wishes for continued success in their many
  worthy endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the council as an expression of high regard by the
