R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, J. Michael and Leslie A. Lowrey of Lake Jackson have
  deservedly been honored with the 2011 Philanthropist of the Year
  award by the Community Foundation of Brazoria County; and
         WHEREAS, Two citizens who have contributed greatly to the
  betterment of their community, the Lowreys have shared their time
  and talents with numerous causes and initiatives in their area;
  Mike Lowrey began assisting nonprofit organizations early in his
  career, following in the footsteps of his parents, who had always
  extolled the rewards of helping others; he is the president of The
  Lowrey Foundation, which is operated exclusively for religious,
  charitable, scientific, educational, and literary purposes, and he
  serves on the boards of the 100 Club of Brazoria County and the
  Community Foundation of Brazoria County; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lowrey was previously a board member for United
  Way and the Brazoria County Association for Citizens with
  Handicaps; he is the founder, president, and CEO of a Lake Jackson
  management consulting and investment firm, Miken, Inc., and serves
  on the board of Texas Gulf Bancshares and Texas Gulf Bank, as well
  as on the Port Freeport commission; and
         WHEREAS, Leslie Lowrey is a dedicated civic leader in her own
  right who participates in the Junior League and the Women Building
  Community division of the Community Foundation; with her husband,
  she provides charitable support to United Way, the Salvation Army,
  the American Red Cross, the Star of Hope Mission, the National
  Alliance on Mental Illness, the Brazoria County Association for
  Citizens with Handicaps, the SIDS Foundation, the Live Oak Clinic,
  and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School; other worthy
  organizations that benefit from the couple's interest include the
  Boys and Girls Club of Brazoria County, His Love Counseling
  Services, the 100 Club of Brazoria County, the Community
  Foundation, the Brazoria County Historical Association, the Lake
  Jackson Historical Society, and the Center for the Arts and
  Sciences in Clute; and
         WHEREAS, In their generous efforts to make a difference, Mike
  and Leslie Lowrey have demonstrated tremendous dedication and
  compassion, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor them for their many
  good works; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate J. Michael and Leslie A. Lowrey of
  Lake Jackson on their receipt of the 2011 Philanthropist of the Year
  award from the Community Foundation of Brazoria County and commend
  this remarkable couple for their many humanitarian endeavors; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Lowrey as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
