R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of West Oso High School in
  Corpus Christi ended its season in triumph by capturing the
  University Interscholastic League 3A state championship with a
  victory in the title game on March 12, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Playing in front of 10,688 spectators at the Frank
  Erwin Center in Austin, the Bears battled Burkburnett High School
  in the tournament final; West Oso trailed by 8 points at halftime
  but roared back in the second half with a spirited rally to win by a
  score of 61-57; Raymond Robinson was named the game's most valuable
  player after leading the team with 26 points; and
         WHEREAS, Standout performances were also delivered by Willie
  Harper, who scored 17 points and had 8 rebounds, and Robert Watson
  and Brandon Scott, whose strong rebounding helped the Bears to
  dominate the action under the boards; and
         WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, West Oso also
  received valuable contributions throughout the season from the
  other members of the roster: Chantze Avery, LaDaniel Marshall,
  Keith Thompson, William Enriquez, Brandon Grant, Davon Fox, Jerome
  Blankenship, and Andrew Lopez; working together, the squad's
  determined athletes closed out the year with 23 consecutive
  victories and posted an overall record of 35-3; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by head coach Arnold Flores and assistant
  coaches Wendell Avery, Anthony Odom, Joe Sanchez, Karl Turk, and
  David Zapien, the Bears have inspired enormous pride and excitement
  among their supporters, and this landmark season has focused
  well-deserved attention on West Oso High and its fine athletic
  programs; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the West Oso High School boys'
  basketball team on winning the 2011 UIL 3A state championship and
  extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
