R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and Minnie Miles of Gardendale reached that
  notable observance in her life on March 12, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Rockdale in 1911, Mrs. Miles was raised
  along with 11 siblings on a farm, where she helped her father plow
  the fields and learned the value of hard work at an early age; she
  studied at St. Philip's College and became a member of the
  institution's first graduating LVN class; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Miles shares a rewarding relationship with her
  husband, John, and today, her loving family includes her daughter,
  Marcie Roberts, as well as 4 stepchildren, 25 grandchildren, 19
  great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, A talented seamstress, Mrs. Miles owned and operated
  her own dress shop; in addition, she served as a supply clerk during
  a career with Kelly Air Force Base that spanned more than three
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. Miles has done much to
  benefit her fellow residents; she has helped to organize a number of
  worthwhile initiatives, including the local community center and
  volunteer fire department, and she is a founding member and active
  congregant of the Gardendale Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Minnie Miles is a source of tremendous inspiration,
  and in sharing the experience gained through a century of life well
  lived, she bestows a precious gift of wisdom that benefits all who
  are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby heartily congratulate Minnie Miles on her 100th
  birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Miles as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
