R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Leonard Bruce retired as a prosecutor with the Ector
  County District Attorney's Office on February 28, 2011, concluding
  a distinguished legal career that spanned more than two decades;
  and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of the Texas Southern University Thurgood
  Marshall School of Law, Lenny Bruce entered public service in 1989
  as an attorney for the Odessa Municipal Court; he transferred to the
  county attorney's office the next year and then worked in private
  practice for a decade, beginning in 1992; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bruce joined the Ector County District
  Attorney's Office in 2002 and was assigned to the 161st District
  Court, where Judge Tryon Lewis then presided; four years later, he
  moved to the 244th District Court; and
         WHEREAS, Tremendously dedicated, Mr. Bruce won the deep
  admiration and respect of his colleagues through his consummate
  skill and commitment to excellence; he prepared his cases with
  great thoroughness and impressed other attorneys with his ability
  to anticipate testimony and potential objections; although firm and
  resolute when required, his innate courtesy and good nature were
  always apparent in the courtroom; his heavy caseload never deterred
  him from finding the time to help anyone who needed assistance, and
  his kindness and generosity endeared him to everyone; and
         WHEREAS, Lenny Bruce's retirement has freed up some 16 hours
  a day to pursue his dream of building a six-seater kit airplane, a
  project that will certainly benefit from his legendary work ethic
  and attention to detail; although Mr. Bruce will be missed by his
  coworkers, his passion for justice and the high standards he set
  will continue to inspire all who have been privileged to know him;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Leonard Bruce on his exceptional career
  as an Ector County prosecutor and honor him for a job well done in
  behalf of his fellow citizens; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Bruce as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
