R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Cathedral High School in El Paso is celebrating its |
|
85th anniversary with a gala on May 7, 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, The only Catholic, all-boys high school in the city, |
|
Cathedral High School was founded by the De La Salle Christian |
|
Brothers in 1925; the school offers its students a faith-based |
|
education that prepares them to succeed in college and the world at |
|
large; more than 5,000 young men have graduated from Cathedral |
|
since it opened its doors, and many of the school's alumni have gone |
|
on to become leaders in the community and in their professions; and |
|
WHEREAS, Guided by its mission "to teach minds and touch |
|
hearts," Cathedral High School provides its students with a |
|
first-rate academic curriculum, combined with moral and spiritual |
|
instruction grounded in Catholic teachings; in 2006 the school |
|
launched the Center for Advanced Studies, which enables students to |
|
take college-level classes on campus and earn up to 30 college |
|
credits before graduating; Cathedral students also enjoy |
|
opportunities to participate in sports and other extracurricular |
|
activities, and each year they volunteer their time in the |
|
community; and |
|
WHEREAS, "La Cate," as the school is affectionately known, |
|
draws students from Juarez as well as El Paso, and the fellowship |
|
that they experience has helped to foster understanding and |
|
cooperation between the border cities; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 85 years, Cathedral High School has contributed |
|
to the academic and spiritual growth of its students, producing |
|
young men of conscience and compassion, and the tradition of |
|
excellence it has established is truly worthy of recognition; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 85th anniversary of Cathedral |
|
High School and extend to all those associated with the school |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Cathedral High School as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
