R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The gifted stage and screen actress Holland Taylor |
|
is bringing her one-woman show, ANN: An Affectionate Portrait of |
|
Ann Richards, to Austin in May 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Philadelphia, Ms. Taylor earned her |
|
bachelor's degree in drama from Bennington College and subsequently |
|
moved to New York to start a career in the theater; she appeared in |
|
the original productions of Simon Gray's Butley and A. R. Gurney's |
|
The Cocktail Hour before being cast as Ruth Dunbar in the sitcom |
|
Bosom Buddies with Tom Hanks; and |
|
WHEREAS, That was her breakout role, and she has been a |
|
popular character actor on television and the big screen ever |
|
since, often playing strong, charming women known for their sharp |
|
wit; her first major film was Romancing the Stone, and more recently |
|
she has appeared in Legally Blonde, Baby Mama, and Spy Kids 2 and 3; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Taylor is perhaps most well known for her |
|
Emmy-winning performance as Judge Roberta Kittleson in The |
|
Practice, and for her portrayal as Evelyn Harper in Two and a Half |
|
Men, for which she has been nominated for an Emmy three times; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Taylor embodies yet another smart and |
|
complicated woman in her latest project, which she wrote after |
|
three years of archival research and interviews with the late |
|
governor's family and friends; the play has been staged to great |
|
acclaim in Galveston and San Antonio, and its Austin premiere is |
|
scheduled for May 4 at the Paramount Theatre; and |
|
WHEREAS, Holland Taylor's ability to delight Texans with her |
|
performance as one of their most beloved icons speaks to her |
|
considerable skill as an artist and reveals a Texan generosity of |
|
spirit that Governor Ann Richards herself would have applauded; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Holland Taylor for her outstanding |
|
achievements as an entertainer and extend to her a warm welcome to |
|
the Capitol City; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
