R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the National Council of Negro Women,
  Inc., Minnie H. Goodlow Page Section are gathering for their ninth
  annual Spring Hat Extravaganza and Tea, A Salute to Women of
  Distinction, and this event presents an ideal opportunity to
  recognize this noteworthy organization; and
         WHEREAS, The NCNW was founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune,
  an educator and civil rights leader who advocated higher education
  for African American girls, started what became Bethune-Cookman
  University, and served as an advisor to President Franklin D.
  Roosevelt; the council unites women dedicated to improving quality
  of life for themselves, their families, and their communities and
  has an outreach to four million women through its 250
  community-based sections and 38 national affiliated organizations,
  including the National Assembly of Voluntary Health and Social
  Welfare Organizations, the National Council of Women in the United
  States, and the International Council of Women; and
         WHEREAS, NCNW sponsors educational, economic, social,
  cultural, and scientific self-help projects at the national and
  local levels; funded by membership, private donations, and grants
  from foundations, corporations, and governments, the group's
  projects promote equality of opportunity and work to eliminate
  prejudice and discrimination based upon race, creed, color, sex, or
  national origin; and
         WHEREAS, Through its core of volunteers in 34 states, the
  NCNW bolsters community services and addresses the local needs of
  citizens; the Minnie H. Goodlow Page Section was chartered in 2000
  and is named in honor of an esteemed Dallas educator and community
  leader who served as president of the Dallas Metro Section of the
  NCNW for 13 years; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the National Council of Negro Women,
  Inc., Minnie H. Goodlow Page Section have demonstrated an
  exceptional commitment to their organization's worthy goals, and
  they have set a standard of volunteer excellence to which others may
  aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.,
  Minnie H. Goodlow Page Section on the occasion of its ninth annual
  Spring Hat Extravaganza and Tea and extend to its members sincere
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
