R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The University of Texas at El Paso men's basketball |
|
|
team created a memorable season for its fans in 2010-2011, winning |
|
|
more than 70 percent of its games as a new era in the history of the |
|
|
Miners program got under way; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In its first year under new head coach Tim Floyd, |
|
|
UTEP finished second in Conference USA, posting an 11-5 record in |
|
|
conference play; the team's most impressive win was a 65-56 triumph |
|
|
over the highly regarded Michigan Wolverines at the Legends Classic |
|
|
in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on November 27; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Senior Randy Culpepper, the 2009-2010 Conference |
|
|
USA Player of the Year, led the team in scoring with 19.3 points per |
|
|
game and leaves UTEP as the second-highest all-time scorer in both |
|
|
school and conference history and the conference's all-time leader |
|
|
in steals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Fellow senior Julyan Stone was the squad's top |
|
|
rebounder, averaging 7.5 per game while also becoming the |
|
|
conference's all-time leader in assists; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Miners finished with an overall record of 25-10 |
|
|
and made an appearance in the National Invitational Tournament; |
|
|
having benefited from its experiences during an eventful year and |
|
|
with many talented players on its roster, the team is looking |
|
|
forward to the 2011-2012 campaign with great anticipation; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor The University of Texas at El Paso men's |
|
|
basketball team on its achievements during the 2010-2011 season and |
|
|
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
