R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the loss of |
|
Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Jonathan Thomas McDonald |
|
of Post, who died in the line of duty on November 15, 2010, at the |
|
age of 28; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jonathan McDonald was born in Lubbock on July 24, |
|
1982, to Cindy and John McDonald; he graduated from Greenwood High |
|
School in 2000 and earned a bachelor's degree in business |
|
administration and marketing from Texas Tech University in 2005; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. McDonald married his high school sweetheart, the |
|
former Laura Michelle Thornton, in 2006, and together they were |
|
blessed with a daughter, Kacyn, who was born in 2010; and |
|
WHEREAS, While attending college, Mr. McDonald worked for |
|
United Supermarkets, eventually attaining the position of manager; |
|
in 2008, he felt called to public service and took a reduction in |
|
salary to join the Texas Department of Public Safety; he graduated |
|
from the DPS Academy in September of that year and was subsequently |
|
stationed in Post; and |
|
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Trooper McDonald had |
|
worked in the community for two years, during which time he had won |
|
the respect and affection of residents and colleagues alike; a man |
|
of strong faith, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church |
|
in Post; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although he was taken much too soon, Jonathan |
|
McDonald leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family and |
|
community that will forever inspire all those who knew and loved |
|
him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jonathan Thomas |
|
McDonald and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife, Laura Michelle McDonald; to his daughter, |
|
Kacyn Shae McDonald; to his parents, Cindy and John McDonald; to his |
|
brothers, Mark McDonald and Jared McDonald; to his grandmothers, |
|
Florene Connor and Frances Sanders; to his father-in-law and |
|
mother-in-law, Donny and Kathy Thornton; and to his other relatives |
|
and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jonathan |
|
Thomas McDonald. |
