R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Elaine Whitlock of Ed Hodges Elementary School has
  been chosen by the Mesquite Independent School District Council of
  PTAs as the 2010-2011 Elementary School Principal of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, An educator for nearly four decades, Ms. Whitlock
  has served as principal of Ed Hodges Elementary School since 1990;
  she oversees various initiatives for the students and staff,
  including campus reading celebrations and an intern and resident
  program, and she created and implemented a Young Writer's Workshop
  at her school; she regularly participates in development activities
  covering such topics as conflict resolution and cooperative
  learning, and she sits on committees addressing diversity,
  disadvantaged students, and other issues; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Decatur, Ms. Whitlock is from a family
  of educators; her mother taught music, her father was a math teacher
  and assistant principal, one of her daughters is a high school
  counselor, and her other daughter is a middle school assistant
  principal; Ms. Whitlock graduated from Mesquite High School and
  Texas Tech University and earned a master's degree in education
  from Texas A&M University--Commerce and a certificate in management
  from Texas Woman's University; and
         WHEREAS, Hired by the Mesquite Independent School District in
  1969, she taught English at Walter L. Wilkinson Middle School and
  English, government, and writing at Mesquite High School before
  becoming an elementary school assistant principal in 1986; and
         WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Ms. Whitlock enjoys the
  love and support of her husband, Larry, and she takes great pride in
  her two daughters, Leslie Noble and Kelly Long, and four
  grandchildren, Scott, Jenna, Adam, and Abby; and
         WHEREAS, The commitment to excellence that Elaine Whitlock
  has brought to her efforts at Ed Hodges Elementary School has
  inspired faculty, staff, and students alike, and she is helping
  many young Texans to acquire the skills they will need to build
  fulfilling and productive lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Elaine Whitlock on her selection as
  the 2010-2011 Elementary School Principal of the Year by the
  Mesquite Independent School District Council of PTAs and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Whitlock as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
