R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dan Clifton is retiring as scout executive of the |
|
Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 2011, drawing to a |
|
close nearly four decades of outstanding service with the |
|
organization; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Clifton studied business at the University of |
|
Tennessee-Knoxville before joining the Boy Scouts in the early |
|
1970s; in 1995, he was appointed as scout executive of the Longhorn |
|
Council of the Boy Scouts, one of the largest scouting councils in |
|
the United States with some 28,000 scouts in Fort Worth and North |
|
Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Longhorn Council has |
|
expanded program opportunities and facilities and solidified its |
|
position as home to the Texas High Adventure Base; Mr. Clifton has |
|
overseen the efforts of 12,000 scout masters and other volunteers, |
|
and during his tenure, more than 7,400 scouts have attained the rank |
|
of Eagle Scout; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dan Clifton's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America have greatly |
|
benefited countless young people and their families, and he may |
|
indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on |
|
the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dan Clifton on his retirement as |
|
scout executive of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Clifton as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
