R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Rogelio Hernandez Musquiz of Del Rio retired in 2010 |
|
after a notable 12-year tenure as a Val Verde County commissioner; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Del Rio, Roy Musquiz graduated from |
|
Howard Payne University in 1967 and earned a master's degree in |
|
education from Sul Ross State University in 1972; he began his |
|
career as an educator in 1967, when he was hired by the San Felipe |
|
Del Rio school district to teach elementary school; he went on to |
|
become a counselor and an assistant principal, and in 1982 he was |
|
appointed principal, a post he held for 16 years until his |
|
retirement from education in 1998; along the way, he served the |
|
greater community as a Del Rio Housing Authority commissioner and |
|
as a precinct chair; moreover, he was a member of the Del Rio City |
|
Council from 1990 to 1997; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1998, Mr. Musquiz was elected to the Val Verde |
|
County Commissioners Court, and during his time in office, he |
|
helped to oversee a number of significant community improvements; |
|
construction began on new roadways, many older streets were paved, |
|
street lights were installed at school bus stops, a local detention |
|
center was expanded, and a facility was built for the Cienegas |
|
community to provide classes, medical services, and a food bank; in |
|
addition, Mr. Musquiz was instrumental in the creation of a park |
|
east of Del Rio, which was later named in his honor; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is a life member of the Del Rio |
|
San Felipe Lions Club, and he served the organization as its |
|
president; he further distinguished himself as a member of the |
|
board of the San Felipe Ex-Student Memorial Center for three years; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Musquiz enjoys the love |
|
and support of his wife of 50 years, Maria, and their two children, |
|
Rogelio and Julissa; and |
|
WHEREAS, Roy Musquiz has made important and lasting |
|
contributions to Val Verde County, and he can indeed take pride in |
|
his myriad accomplishments as he looks forward to the next exciting |
|
chapter in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Rogelio Hernandez Musquiz on his |
|
retirement as a member of the Val Verde County Commissioners Court |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Musquiz as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
