R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Veterans from the Coastal Bend made vital |
|
contributions and immeasurable sacrifices during the Vietnam War, |
|
and they are receiving special recognition from April 12-14, 2011, |
|
during the exhibition of The Wall That Heals at the Congressman |
|
Solomon P. Ortiz International Center in Corpus Christi; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial |
|
in Washington, D.C., The Wall That Heals was unveiled on Veterans |
|
Day in 1996; it has since traveled to more than 300 cities and towns |
|
across the United States, allowing veterans and other citizens to |
|
experience the renowned memorial in their own communities; the |
|
touring exhibition features a museum and education center that |
|
provide information about military members lost in the Vietnam War, |
|
and visitors can upload photos and remembrances of loved ones to the |
|
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Virtual Wall; and |
|
WHEREAS, The replica wall's three-day stop in Corpus Christi |
|
is sponsored by the Port of Corpus Christi along with the Veterans |
|
Band of Corpus Christi, which is hosting several related events, |
|
including the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans March to Remember and |
|
an indoor picnic and concert; the group's Remembering Our South |
|
Texas Heroes Benefit will raise funds for the construction of the |
|
education center at the Vietnam Memorial in our nation's capital; |
|
in addition, the group has been collecting photos of the 192 area |
|
men and women who gave their lives for their country during the |
|
Vietnam War, with plans to include the photos in the education |
|
center archives; and |
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe eternal gratitude and remembrance to |
|
the brave patriots who served in our nation's military during the |
|
Vietnam War, and the exhibition of The Wall That Heals offers |
|
Coastal Bend residents an opportunity to pay solemn tribute and |
|
acknowledge a debt that can never be repaid; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the exhibition of The Wall That |
|
Heals in Corpus Christi and commend the Port of Corpus Christi and |
|
the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi for their dedication to |
|
presenting this inspiring observance. |
