R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of Harper's Chapel Baptist Church in San |
|
Antonio are celebrating the 69th anniversary of their church's |
|
founding in 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Harper's Chapel Baptist Church was built by its |
|
first pastor, the Reverend I. H. Harper, who worked with his sons |
|
throughout 1941 to establish the church; he began conducting |
|
services there in March 1942 and went on to serve as the |
|
congregation's spiritual leader for a remarkable tenure that |
|
spanned nearly 42 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Harper was succeeded by the Reverend Tommy |
|
S. Robinson, Sr., in 1983, who oversaw the church with dedication |
|
and vision for 21 years before his passing in 2004; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the direction of the Reverend Charles N. |
|
Wingfield since that time, Harper's Chapel has undergone a number |
|
of renovations to help it keep pace with the needs of its growing |
|
congregation; in addition, the church became part of the Westside |
|
Ministerial Alliance and the Community of Churches for Social |
|
Action in 2005, and it has been affiliated with the Guadalupe |
|
District Missionary Baptist Association and College since 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, Harper's Chapel Baptist Church has long served as a |
|
source of spiritual enrichment to those who worship there, and its |
|
continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of |
|
its members, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 69th anniversary of Harper's |
|
Chapel Baptist Church in San Antonio and extend to the congregation |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
