R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the loved ones of John
  Herrington of Moody, who passed away on March 17, 2011, at the age
  of 91; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Rogers on August 17, 1919, to Joseph Clark
  and Pearl Jeanetta Herrington, Johnny Herrington was raised in
  Moody and continued his education at Baylor University after
  graduating from Moody High School in 1938; he married Laverne
  Christine Payne in Eddy on May 21, 1939, and the couple enjoyed a
  remarkable 70-year marriage and became the parents of three
  children, Howard, Larry, and Jeanette; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Herrington served his country in the United
  States Army during World War II, seeing action in the Battle of the
  Bulge and receiving the Purple Heart; he spent much of his life in
  the grocery business, first as the employee of a wholesale grocer in
  Fort Worth, later as the owner of Herrington Grocery in Moody until
  his retirement in 1976, and then remaining active in that vocation
  as a part-time worker; he also served on the Moody City Council and
  was a valued participant in the Moody Lions Club and local chamber
  of commerce; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted member of the Moody Church of Christ, Mr.
  Herrington was a longtime congregant there and further
  distinguished himself as an elder, song leader, Sunday school
  teacher, and bookkeeper; and
         WHEREAS, While the death of Johnny Herrington brings
  immeasurable sorrow to many, he leaves behind a record of service to
  family, community, and country that will long be treasured by all
  those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Herrington and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons,
  Howard Herrington and his wife, Phyllis, and Larry Herrington and
  his wife, Jerree; to his daughter, Jeanette Swearingin, and her
  husband, Mike; to his 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren;
  and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Johnny
  Herrington.
