R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The family-owned Sanchez Barber Shop and Hair Design |
|
Studio in Kerrville observed its 100th anniversary on January 1, |
|
2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Among the oldest continually operating businesses |
|
in Kerr County, the barbershop was founded by Florin C. Sanchez, a |
|
musician from San Antonio, in 1911; originally housed in a one-room |
|
building on Jefferson Street, the shop was moved by steam engine in |
|
1912 to its current location on Main Street; during the business's |
|
initial decades of operation, Mr. Sanchez would often play his |
|
violin between haircuts, and family members, friends, and customers |
|
would contribute to the music as well; and |
|
WHEREAS, Florin B. Sanchez, the son of the shop's founder, |
|
took over the business after returning from World War II in 1946; |
|
currently, it is owned by the third generation of this enterprising |
|
family, Louie Sanchez, who began working in the shop in 1969 and has |
|
spent more than 41 years cutting hair; his sister, Paulette |
|
Sanchez, runs the adjoining hair design studio, which was added in |
|
1983; the business claims the title of the state's oldest |
|
family-owned barbershop, and its customers patronize the |
|
establishment for the staff's skill as well as for the camaraderie |
|
and fellowship that have characterized the shop from the beginning; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of the past century, Sanchez Barber |
|
Shop and Hair Design Studio has become a prized institution and a |
|
classic Texas success story, and it is a privilege to join in |
|
recognizing this special milestone in its long and colorful |
|
history; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sanchez |
|
Barber Shop and Hair Design Studio and extend to all those |
|
associated with the business sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Sanchez family as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
