R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
  of Paul Oliver Naut of Katy, who passed away on April 3, 2011, at the
  age of 89; and
         WHEREAS, Paul Naut was born on September 1, 1921, in Sedan,
  Kansas, to Oliver and Marie Naut; in 1929 he moved with his family
  to Canada following the discovery of oil in Alberta; after high
  school, he joined the military and had the distinction of serving in
  the Aleutian Campaign, which included the only battle waged on U.S.
  soil during World War II; and
         WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the military, Mr. Naut
  enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a bachelor
  of science degree in petroleum engineering; he then launched a
  distinguished career in the oil industry that would take him to
  locations around the world, beginning with an overseas assignment
  to Venezuela while working for Creole Oil; he went on to become a
  valued employee of Exxon for nearly 25 years and helped the company
  develop oil and gas fields in countries that included Australia,
  Libya, and Pakistan; after retiring from Exxon, he became a
  Houston-based consultant, and for another 25 years he continued to
  travel the globe, sharing his knowledge and expertise with
  countless people; and
         WHEREAS, While working in Venezuela, Mr. Naut met his wife,
  the former Musabelle Coons; the couple wed in Biloxi, Mississippi,
  and they enjoyed a rewarding marriage together until her passing in
  2001; he was also blessed with four children, Lisa, Matthew,
  Edward, and Christopher, as well as six grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Naut settled in Katy for retirement; in his
  spare time, he enjoyed doting on his grandchildren and telling
  colorful stories from his lifetime of work and travel; and
         WHEREAS, While the death of Paul Naut brings great sadness to
  his family and friends, he leaves behind a rich legacy that will
  long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Paul Oliver Naut and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  children, Lisa Gilkeson and her husband, David, Matthew Naut and
  his wife, Batiti Otirake, and Edward Naut and his wife, LouAnn; to
  his grandchildren, Christopher, Paul, Mary, Taruru, Bakoaiti, and
  Joseph; and to his other family and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Paul Naut.
