R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dora Perez took the oath of office as a member of the |
|
Willacy County Commissioners Court on January 1, 2011, becoming the |
|
first female member of that organization in the county's history; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Commissioner Perez won election as the |
|
representative for Precinct 4 on April 13, 2010, and is a longtime |
|
resident of Willacy County; she attended school in Sebastian before |
|
graduating from Lyford High School and then went on to earn a |
|
bachelor's degree from The University of Texas--Pan American and a |
|
master's degree from Texas A&M University--Kingsville; and |
|
WHEREAS, Commissioner Perez is a retired educator who taught |
|
for 36 years, 33 of which were spent with the Lyford Consolidated |
|
Independent School District; during her notable career, she |
|
organized the district's bilingual program, and she also taught |
|
adult basic education and parenting classes; and |
|
WHEREAS, A member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Sebastian, |
|
Commissioner Perez is a Eucharist minister, the CYO director, and a |
|
CCD teacher and coordinator; in addition, she is the Altar Society |
|
president and secretary, and she holds those same posts on the |
|
parish council; she further gives back to her community as a member |
|
of the Housing Authority Board of Willacy County; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Commissioner Perez enjoys |
|
the love and support of her husband of 43 years, Ignacio, and her |
|
two daughters and grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each day, public servants work to improve the |
|
quality of life for their fellow citizens in innumerable ways, and |
|
the dedicated efforts of Commissioner Dora Perez are helping to |
|
assure that Willacy County is well positioned to meet the |
|
challenges and opportunities of the future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dora Perez on becoming the first |
|
woman to be elected to the Willacy County Commissioners Court and |
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Commissioner Perez as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
