R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Father Joseph F. Geleney, Jr., of the Church of St. |
|
Mary of the Assumption in Waco is commemorating the 10th |
|
anniversary of his ordination as a Roman Catholic priest on June 16, |
|
2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Rhode Island and a graduate of Bryant |
|
University, Joe Geleney served his country in the United States |
|
Army for 14 years before entering the priesthood; his service |
|
included assignment to Kuwait as a signal officer during Operations |
|
Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and he later served for two years in |
|
the Texas Army National Guard; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1997, he entered the seminary at Sacred Heart |
|
School of Theology in Wisconsin, where he earned his master of |
|
divinity degree; ordained by Bishop Gregory M. Aymond in 2001, |
|
Father Geleney began his first assignment as a priest in July of |
|
that year as associate pastor at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in |
|
Austin; four years later, he became assistant pastor at St. Albert |
|
the Great Catholic Church, also in Austin, and in 2007, he assumed |
|
the responsibilities of pastor at two churches, St. Ann in |
|
Somerville and Blessed Virgin Mary in Washington; and |
|
WHEREAS, Father Geleney has served as pastor of the Church of |
|
St. Mary of the Assumption in Waco since July 2010; his professional |
|
areas of interest include scripture, liturgy, and youth ministry; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of a decade of dedicated service, |
|
this esteemed clergyman has exemplified the highest standards of |
|
his vocation, and his insight, knowledge, and compassion have |
|
benefited countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Father Joseph F. Geleney, Jr., on the 10th |
|
anniversary of his ordination and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Father Geleney as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
