R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Junior League of Waco is celebrating 75 years of
  service to area residents in 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1936, the Junior League of
  Waco has been dedicated to promoting volunteerism and improving the
  lives of those in need; in its early years, the group established a
  milk fund for schoolchildren, purchased oxygen tents for local
  hospitals, and assisted in polio vaccination; the Waco Symphony
  Orchestra was established with the help of the organization, which
  also helped in the recovery efforts following a tornado in 1953 and
  provided $100,000 to develop the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims
  and Children; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the Junior League of Waco is ably led by
  president Elisa Rainey, and its membership, which consists of
  nearly 500 women, continues to give back through such initiatives
  as the installment of a new carousel at Lions Park and a youth
  health and safety fair; moreover, the league is instituting
  programs to support at-risk youth, prevent teenage suicide, provide
  assistance to nonprofits in need, and aid clients of Child
  Protective Services; and
         WHEREAS, The volunteer groups of the Lone Star State play an
  indispensable role in enhancing the quality of life for countless
  Texas residents, and the Junior League of Waco may indeed take great
  pride in its enduring efforts to benefit the community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Junior League of Waco on the 75th
  anniversary of its founding and extend to its members sincere best
  wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
