R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Spring Valley Elementary School in Hewitt was |
|
recognized for its outstanding response to the 2010 Food for |
|
Families food drive; and |
|
WHEREAS, Coordinated by Caritas of Waco, in association with |
|
the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Texas Army |
|
National Guard, H-E-B, and KWTX-TV, Food for Families collects |
|
nonperishable food in a one-day drive the Friday before |
|
Thanksgiving; it is one of the largest events of its kind in Texas, |
|
with nine participating counties; and |
|
WHEREAS, The drive's organizers encourage friendly |
|
competition among donors by presenting awards to institutions that |
|
contribute the most food; and |
|
WHEREAS, Spring Valley Elementary School won the Food for |
|
Families Award among schools with 500 to 1,000 students by donating |
|
6,573 pounds of canned and packaged foods; and |
|
WHEREAS, This impressive effort by Spring Valley Elementary |
|
School greatly aided Caritas and other area organizations in their |
|
mission to feed families in need during and beyond the holiday |
|
season, and the school's students and faculty are truly deserving |
|
of praise for their compassion and generosity; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Spring Valley Elementary School for |
|
winning a 2010 Food for Families Award and commend all those |
|
associated with the school for their contributions to this |
|
important event; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Spring Valley Elementary School as an expression of |
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
