R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Bruce Washington Dyer, Jr., of Waco, on March 22, 2011,
  at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Annie Johnson and Bruce Dyer, Sr., Mr.
  Dyer was born on September 15, 1931; he grew up in West Tennessee
  and graduated from Union City High School, where he led the Rhythm
  Rascals dance band; at the age of 17, he hitchhiked to Missouri to
  try out for the St. Louis Cardinals, but the baseball team deemed
  him too young; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Dyer's high school sweetheart, the former
  Dorothy Ams, played piano in the Rhythm Rascals; the couple went on
  to marry and their fulfilling relationship of 60 years was made even
  richer with the addition of four children and four grandchildren;
  and
         WHEREAS, After beginning his career in banking, Mr. Dyer was
  named the assistant administrator for Obion County General Hospital
  at the age of 21; he moved to Texas in 1957 and became the assistant
  administrator of Providence Hospital in El Paso; for a brief time,
  he was employed by a CBS affiliate in El Paso and a UHF station in
  Dallas, but he returned to the medical field and managed clinics in
  Dallas and Marion as well as in Ohio and Kansas; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan later served as administrator of
  Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco and opened several clinics
  for the center before his retirement in 1996; he and his wife also
  founded a bed and breakfast called the Judge Baylor House B&B and
  welcomed numerous distinguished guests; gracious and thoughtful,
  Mr. Dyer was a natural in the role of host, and he was a dedicated
  member of the Heart of Texas Bed & Breakfast Owners Association; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Mr. Dyer
  volunteered for Meals on Wheels; in addition, he served on the
  Woodway City Council for several years, and he was a valued member
  of Seventh & James Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Bruce Dyer will be deeply missed by all who were
  privileged to share in his love and friendship, but those he left
  behind will forever treasure their memories of wonderful times
  spent in his company; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bruce Washington
  Dyer, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Dorothy Ams Dyer; to his children, Alan Dyer, Anne
  Speights, Aaron Dyer and his wife, Alice, and Amy Rye and her
  husband, Nate; to his grandchildren, Holly Speights, Claire
  McGrath, and Nathan and Meredith Dyer; to his sisters, Ann Veghte
  and her husband, Jim, and Peggy Bauman and her husband, Bill; and to
  his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bruce Dyer.
