R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The volunteers of the Clothes Closet, a ministry of
  First United Methodist Church of Gilmer, have received the 2010
  Unsung Hero Award from the Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Women parishioners created the Clothes Closet in
  1980 to make reasonably priced clothing available to the needy and
  to raise money to benefit children in foster care; the ministry is
  carried out entirely by volunteers, who collect, sort, wash, and
  repair the clothing that they then offer at a minimal cost or, in
  some instances, at no charge at all; in addition to clothes, they
  sell donated baby items, household goods, toys, and books; all of
  the proceeds collected are given to charitable organizations in the
  community; and
         WHEREAS, The Clothes Closet raised more than $30,000 in 2010,
  half of which was donated to the Upshur County Child Welfare Board;
  the remaining funds were distributed to other worthy causes,
  including the Upshur County Food Bank, the American Cancer Society
  Relay for Life, the Friends of the Upshur County Public Library
  Summer Reading Program, and the Upward Basketball scholarship
  program; and
         WHEREAS, In acknowledging the exceptional efforts of the
  Clothes Closet volunteers, the chamber paid special recognition to
  the group's current chair, Joy Beth Moore, and to Milta Baugh and
  Loyce Williford, who have helped run the project for nearly 20
  years; and
         WHEREAS, The Clothes Closet provides vital assistance to
  those in difficult circumstances and contributes to programs that
  enrich the lives of countless area residents, and the women who
  conduct this outstanding ministry are indeed deserving of
  commendation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the volunteers of the First United
  Methodist Church Clothes Closet on receiving the Unsung Hero Award
  from the Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce and extend to them sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Clothes Closet volunteers as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
