H.R. No. 1465

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Members of the Associated Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Texas are among those observing National Plumbers Day on April 25, 2011; and

WHEREAS, During the 1880s, the market for indoor plumbing grew significantly in the United States and numerous people sought employment in the trade; true craftsmen sought to distinguish themselves from inexperienced workers by forming the National Association of Master Plumbers in 1883; the organization is today known as the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association, and the PHCC Texas is our state's chapter affiliate; and

WHEREAS, Professional plumbers play a vital role in protecting the health, safety, and comfort of the public; over the centuries, innovations in plumbing have dramatically improved sanitation and reduced the incidence of disease, and plumbers continue to develop new technologies to maintain and enhance the essential infrastructure of our country; and

WHEREAS, In addition to expertise and accreditation, plumbing frequently involves physically demanding labor; most people take plumbing for granted, which is a testament to the skill of America's plumbers, from the industrial hydraulic engineer to the residential tradesman; the majority of plumbing contractors are small business owners who help create numerous jobs in their communities; and

WHEREAS, Plumbers perform vitally important work, and it is indeed fitting to recognize their contributions to our quality of life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby join in recognizing April 25, 2011, as National Plumbers Day and commend the members of the Associated Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Texas for their service.
