R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Each and every day, law enforcement professionals |
|
across this state and nation willingly place themselves in harm's |
|
way to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, One such dedicated public servant, Officer Jason |
|
Voelz of the Garland Police Department, was injured in the line of |
|
duty on December 19, 2010; an officer with the department for five |
|
years, he was arresting an individual for outstanding warrants |
|
shortly after 1 a.m. on the President George Bush Turnpike when the |
|
incident occurred; and |
|
WHEREAS, Officer Voelz had just placed a suspect in the back |
|
of his patrol car when he was struck from behind by another vehicle; |
|
the force of the impact propelled him into the air, and his patrol |
|
car, a second patrol car that had recently arrived on the scene, and |
|
a third car were also hit; and |
|
WHEREAS, A helicopter ambulance flew Officer Voelz to |
|
Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he was treated for |
|
several broken bones; the man who struck him was arrested for |
|
driving while intoxicated; and |
|
WHEREAS, The brave men and women who patrol our cities and |
|
roadways ensure a safer environment for all, and Officer Jason |
|
Voelz is truly worthy of our unwavering support and gratitude for |
|
his dedication to public safety; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Officer Jason Voelz for his outstanding |
|
public service and extend to him sincere best wishes for a swift and |
|
complete recovery; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Officer Voelz as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
