R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Edward S. Marcus High
  School in Flower Mound proved itself one of the finest squads in
  Texas and the entire nation by claiming the 2010-2011 University
  Interscholastic League 5A state championship with a victory in the
  title game on March 12; and
         WHEREAS, Playing before more than 13,000 fans at the Frank
  Erwin Center in Austin, the Marauders beat Lakeview Centennial High
  School 40-38 in a memorable and hard-fought battle that was not
  decided until the final seconds of the game; Marcus Smart was named
  the contest's most valuable player, and both he and Connor Taggart
  were named to the all-tournament team; and
         WHEREAS, With their final victory, the Marauders raised their
  record to 38 wins and just 1 loss; in the end-of-season ratings
  conducted by MaxPreps.com, Marcus was ranked as the number one
  boys' basketball team in the country; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding season was a true team effort, with
  each member of the roster making valuable contributions; in
  addition to Mr. Smart and Mr. Taggart, the team includes Jordan
  Johnson, Phillip Forte, A. J. Luckey, Austin Bianco, Jacob
  VanNattan, Nick Banyard, Lucas Golding, and John Malone; and
         WHEREAS, These determined athletes were guided by head coach
  Danny Henderson and assistant coaches Kenny Boren and Fred Jones;
  vital support was also provided by Marcus High School principal
  Gary Shafferman and athletic coordinator Bryan Erwin; and
         WHEREAS, Success at this level can only be achieved through a
  combination of talent, dedication, and hard work, and all those
  involved in the championship effort may take justifiable pride in a
  job well done; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the boys' basketball team of Marcus
  High School on winning the 2010-2011 UIL 5A state championship and
  on being named the number one team in the country and commend the
  players and coaches for their fine work this season; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
