R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Mariella Gorena is being honored as a Shining Star
  of Hidalgo County on April 26, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, The Shining Star Awards are presented by the Zonta
  Club of West Hidalgo County, an organization working to advance the
  status of women through service and advocacy; and
         WHEREAS, Recognized for her contributions to youth and
  education, Ms. Gorena has made a positive difference in the lives of
  many South Texas children during her 40-year tenure with the
  McAllen Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Gorena brought valuable classroom experience to
  her current role as principal of Wilson Elementary School; a
  graduate of Pan American University, she earned her master's degree
  at the University of Houston and went on to obtain early childhood,
  bilingual, supervision, and mid-management certifications; and
         WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of paramount
  importance to the future of the Lone Star State, and Mariella Gorena
  may indeed reflect with pride on her significant contributions to
  that vital undertaking; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Mariella Gorena on being named a
  Shining Star of Hidalgo County by the Zonta Club and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Gorena as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
