R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, United States Army Private Larry E. Mathis, Jr., has
  successfully completed advanced individual training for his
  specialty in field artillery automated tactical data systems at
  Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma; and
         WHEREAS, Preparation for the specialty that Private Mathis
  has chosen consists of nine weeks of basic training, followed by
  seven weeks of advanced individual training; the basic combat
  training course included study of the army's history, traditions,
  and core values, as well as physical fitness training and
  instruction in a number of vital subjects, such as first aid,
  combat, weapons and marksmanship, map reading and navigation, and
  field maneuvers and tactics; and
         WHEREAS, During advanced individual training, Private Mathis
  received specialized instruction in how to operate advanced field
  artillery tactical data systems for gun, missile, and rocket
  systems that are used to support infantry and tank units in combat;
  he also learned methods for computing target locations and
  techniques for handling ammunition, as well as procedures for using
  and maintaining a wide range of equipment; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Larry E. Mathis, Sr., of Waco, Private
  Mathis is a 2004 graduate of Waco High School; and
         WHEREAS, This admirable young man has proudly answered his
  nation's call to duty, and he is indeed deserving of his fellow
  citizens' deep appreciation for his courage, dedication to service,
  and patriotism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Private Larry E. Mathis, Jr., on
  his graduation from the advanced individual training course for his
  specialty in field artillery automated tactical data systems and
  commend him on his decision to serve his country as a member of the
  United States Army; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Private Mathis as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
