R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
death of Miriam Simmons of Waco on March 21, 2011, at the age of 98; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, "Snooks" Simmons was joined in marriage with Edward |
|
Simmons, who served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air |
|
Corps; the couple had a son, Edward, and shared a rewarding |
|
relationship until Lieutenant Simmons was killed in action in the |
|
Philippines during World War II; and |
|
WHEREAS, After moving to Waco in 1963, Mrs. Simmons was |
|
employed with the Veterans Administration for many years; she |
|
delighted in the small-town feel of her adopted hometown and was an |
|
avid bridge player; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Snooks Simmons will be deeply missed, |
|
cherished memories of time spent in her company will long endure in |
|
the hearts of her family and friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Miriam Simmons and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her son, |
|
Edward Simmons, and his wife, Karen; to her aunt, Georgia Breeden; |
|
to her cousins, Glenn Breeden and Carol Leaverton; to her longtime |
|
friends, Annette Brister, Betty Smith, Gail Thomas, and Tammie |
|
Stripling; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Miriam |
|
Simmons. |
