R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Monsignor Harry Mazurkiewicz is celebrating the
  60th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood of the Roman
  Catholic Church on May 26, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Born on September 18, 1926, in Chappell Hill to Tony
  and Josephine Mazurkiewicz, Harry Mazurkiewicz obtained his early
  education from St. Mary's School in Brenham and graduated from St.
  Edward's High School in Austin before entering the seminary in La
  Porte; he was ordained in 1951 at St. Mary, Immaculate Conception
  Catholic Church in Brenham, was briefly assigned to St. Monica
  Catholic Church in Cameron, and then returned to St. Mary's to serve
  as an associate pastor; and
         WHEREAS, In 1956, "Father Harry" became the associate pastor
  of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange, and 10 years later, he
  assumed the responsibilities of pastor, providing inspiration,
  comfort, and wisdom to his parishioners for four decades until his
  retirement in 2006; his duties included serving on the Presbyterian
  Council and as director of the Clerical Endowment Fund since 1976,
  and he was appointed domestic prelate in 1982; in addition, he was
  the acting dean of the Eastern Deanery and a consultor and member of
  the personnel committee for Bishop Aymond of Austin; and
         WHEREAS, During his notable tenure at Sacred Heart, Monsignor
  Mazurkiewicz supervised the construction of a modern church
  building and rectory, an activity center, a new school, and a
  prekindergarten building; moreover, he established an endowment
  for the church school; and
         WHEREAS, Monsignor Mazurkiewicz has contributed to the
  greater community as well through his charter membership on the
  Fayette Heritage Library, Museum, and Archives Board, and he also
  served on the foundation board of a local hospital and as the
  chaplain of the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department for more than 44
  years; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Harry Mazurkiewicz enjoys
  the support of his family, including his siblings and their
  spouses, J. T. Mazurkiewicz and his wife, Irene, Ester Kubeczka and
  her husband, Joe, and Sister Florentine Mazurkiewicz; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the past six decades, Monsignor
  Harry has dedicated himself to the spiritual education and
  enrichment of others, and his strong faith and compassion have
  benefited countless people; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Monsignor Harry Mazurkiewicz on the 60th
  anniversary of his ordination and commend him for a lifetime of
  service to the church; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the monsignor as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
