R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is a celebration of
  love that has stood the test of time, and five decades after that
  special day in 1961, Eddie and Joan Blackwell of Abilene continue to
  bring out the best in one another and to inspire all who share in the
  richness of their lives; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Blackwell attended Borger High School, where he
  played for the Bulldogs football team, and he subsequently served
  as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War; Mrs.
  Blackwell was an athlete in her own right for the Hamlin Pied Pipers
  basketball team at Hamlin High School, and she enjoyed the music of
  Elvis Presley out of earshot of her father; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell were joined in matrimony on
  April 29, 1961, at a ceremony held in Hamlin; the couple spent their
  honeymoon at the Century Lodge in Abilene and shared their first
  meal together as husband and wife at the famous Dixie Pig
  restaurant; nine months and one week later, they welcomed a son,
  Mike, into their family, which eventually grew to include a
  daughter, Debra, as well; today they also enjoy the love and support
  of a daughter-in-law, Angie Blackwell, a son-in-law, Craig
  McCright, eight grandchildren, Michael, Abbie, Tess, and Miles
  Blackwell, Shanell Whipple, and Justin, Ashton, and Meagan
  McCright, and two great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Jaxon Whipple;
  and
         WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. and Mrs.
  Blackwell still reside in the home they purchased in 1965 for
  $6,400; and
         WHEREAS, For five decades, Eddie and Joan Blackwell have
  brought to their marriage kindness and devotion, and it is a
  pleasure to honor them for their enduring commitment; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Eddie and Joan Blackwell on the
  occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them
  sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
