R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In May 2011, members of the St. John Church
  congregations in Grand Prairie and Southlake are honoring Dr. Denny
  D. Davis for two decades of dedicated service; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Champaign, Illinois, Denny Davis was
  called to the ministry at the age of 14, and he delivered his first
  sermon on February 17, 1977; he earned his bachelor's degree in
  religion from Bishop College, where he served as president of the
  Minister's Lyceum, and he later received his master's degree in
  theology from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University;
  and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Davis led Mount Rose Baptist Church in Dallas
  before assuming the pulpit of the St. John Church in Grand Prairie
  in 1991; since that time, the church has grown by 12,000 members,
  and various ministries that have benefited congregants as well as
  the wider community have been initiated; under his able direction,
  the church established a second campus in Southlake in 2007; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his work with St. John, Dr. Davis has
  served as first vice president of the Fellowship District Congress
  of Christian Workers and as corresponding secretary of the State
  Congress of Christian Workers for the Missionary Baptist General
  Convention of Texas; a member of the Bishop 5 Plus 1 Revival Team,
  he is also director general of the Fellowship District Association;
  and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Davis derives great inspiration and support from
  his wife, the Reverend Wanda Bolton-Davis, who serves at his side
  and facilitates a multitude of church activities; the couple are
  blessed with three children, Kandis, Denny, and Destiny; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Denny Davis has demonstrated
  an unwavering commitment to his church and his community, and his
  efforts have enriched the lives of many Texans; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dr. Denny D. Davis on the occasion of his
  20th pastoral anniversary with the St. John Church and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
