R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Bernice Hatcher of Grapevine celebrated her 100th
  birthday on February 21, 2011, and a host of friends and admirers
  gathered to extend to her congratulations and best wishes; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1911, Mrs. Hatcher learned to play the piano
  by ear at the age of six and began taking piano lessons at nine; she
  went on to earn a music degree from William Woods University in
  Missouri and a master's degree at the University of North Texas; and
         WHEREAS, While living in Oklahoma City, Mrs. Hatcher taught
  school and worked for a music company, where she often performed
  sheet music for customers so they could hear it before they
  purchased it; she also played for stage shows and once performed
  with Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys; and
         WHEREAS, In 1938, she was joined in matrimony to John Scott
  Hatcher, and together they were blessed with a son, John Scott
  Hatcher, Jr.; she and her family moved to Pampa, Texas, in 1948,
  where they made their home for nearly two decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hatcher was a graduate student at UNT when the
  principal of Cannon Elementary School invited her to become a
  teacher with the Grapevine school district; she joined the faculty
  at Colleyville Elementary in 1966 and taught first grade until her
  retirement in 1976; today she is a member of the
  Grapevine-Colleyville Association of Retired School Employees, the
  Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the National Education
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, A charter member of the Grapevine Senior Chorus,
  Mrs. Hatcher served as the group's accompanist, performing every
  week at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center; she has also played
  the piano for many other groups in the community, including the
  Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Lodge, and the Lions Club; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her love of music, Mrs. Hatcher
  enjoyed playing golf for many years and was a founding member of the
  Grapevine Ladies Golf League; she played her last round at the age
  of 90; she is also a member of the Grapevine Garden Club and the
  Second Advent Christian Church; and
         WHEREAS, Bernice Hatcher is a source of great inspiration,
  and her 100th birthday provided a welcome opportunity for her
  friends and loved ones to express their admiration and affection
  and to acknowledge the special place she holds in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bernice Hatcher on her 100th
  birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Hatcher as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
