R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, James E. Boggs, a professor emeritus in the
  Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Texas
  at Austin, is celebrating his 90th birthday on June 9, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, James Boggs was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1921;
  after graduating from Oberlin College in 1943 with a bachelor of
  arts degree, he attended the University of Michigan, where he
  earned a master of science degree in 1945 and a Ph.D. in chemistry
  in 1952; and
         WHEREAS, Professor Boggs moved to Austin in 1953 to join the
  faculty of The University of Texas chemistry department; over the
  course of his career, he has done important work in theoretical and
  structural chemistry, and he continues to explore problems of
  molecular structure and the chemical consequences of that
  structure; in addition, for more than 40 years, he organized the
  Austin Symposium on Molecular Structure, a conference attended by
  scientists from around the world; and
         WHEREAS, In 2010, Professor Boggs was awarded the prestigious
  Dr. Barbara Mez-Starck Prize for his outstanding contributions in
  experimental structural chemistry and molecular physics; that same
  year, he was also named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society in
  recognition of his achievements in science and his support of the
  society; and
         WHEREAS, James Boggs was joined in matrimony to the former
  Ruth Ann Rogers on June 22, 1948, and they enjoyed a rewarding
  marriage until her passing; in all his endeavors he has the love and
  support of his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Bill Cariker,
  Ann and Lon McCarley, and Carol Boggs and Ward Watt, as well as his
  grandchildren, Ryan and Beth McCarley, and his step-grandchildren,
  Jean Godfrey-June and Laura Watt; and
         WHEREAS, An acclaimed scientist and educator, James Boggs may
  reflect proudly on his many accomplishments in nine decades of life
  well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. James E. Boggs on his 90th
  birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Professor Boggs as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
