R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
memories of Evelyn Rhodes Witte Sterling of Dallas, who passed away |
|
on April 12, 2011, at the age of 93; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Louisiana, Evelyn Rhodes was born on |
|
July 19, 1917, to Gladys and Walter Rhodes; she graduated from |
|
Neville High School in Monroe and went on to earn her bachelor's |
|
degree from Louisiana State University; and |
|
WHEREAS, While working as a medical technologist in |
|
Shreveport, she met and married Dr. Wallie Stovall Witte; together, |
|
they settled in Leland, Mississippi, where they helped to establish |
|
the local hospital; she worked in her husband's medical practice |
|
and later dedicated her time to raising their four children, Jane, |
|
Lynn, Stovall, and Mignonne; after her husband's passing in 1968, |
|
she was fortunate to find love a second time with George Archibald |
|
Sterling; the couple were married in 1971, and Mrs. Sterling's |
|
family grew to include three more daughters, Carol, Cappie, and |
|
Catherine; and |
|
WHEREAS, This dedicated volunteer gave back to her community |
|
as a member of First Baptist Church, Deer Creek Garden Club, and |
|
Leland Junior Auxiliary; in her free time, she enjoyed sculpting |
|
and painting, and she studied her craft with Leon Koury and a number |
|
of other local artists; she also loved to travel, and she visited |
|
all seven continents and more than 100 countries through the years, |
|
but her favorite trips were the annual summer beach vacations she |
|
took with her children and grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Evelyn Sterling lived a full and generous life, and |
|
she will always be remembered with great admiration and affection; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Evelyn Rhodes Witte |
|
Sterling and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: |
|
to her children and their spouses, Edwin and Jane Witte Loudon, Kent |
|
and Lynn Witte Hamilton, Stovall and Jan Witte, Mignonne Kinney |
|
Witte, Carol Sterling Finerty, Robert and Cappie Sterling Addison, |
|
and Dean and Catherine Sterling Kidd; to her 15 grandchildren, Mike |
|
Sterling Finerty and his wife, Jen, Rob Addison and his wife, Erin, |
|
Wynn Loudon, Evelyn Loudon Ellis and her husband, Lance, Rhodes |
|
Hamilton and his wife, Amanda, David Hamilton, Paul Hamilton, Jack |
|
Hamilton, Caroline Loudon Parfect and her husband, David, Scott |
|
Sterling Addison and his wife, Katherine, Meredith Witte Knight and |
|
her husband, Shane, Carol Kidd Southerland and her husband, Scott, |
|
Evelyn Witte, Sterling Kidd, and Stovall Witte III; to her eight |
|
great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Evelyn |
|
Sterling. |
