R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |
|
|
of Thelma Ruth Hoyle of Alpine, who passed away on March 17, 2011, |
|
|
at the age of 82; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The former Thelma Caram was born on January 27, |
|
|
1929, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Norman and Siri Caram; she |
|
|
graduated in 1946 from Lowell High School, where her academic |
|
|
excellence earned her the Carney Medal; she went on to obtain a |
|
|
bachelor's degree in business education from Salem State University |
|
|
and later graduated from Boston University with a master's degree |
|
|
in secondary education and a certificate for advanced graduate |
|
|
studies in secondary school administration and supervision; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For four decades beginning in 1951, Mrs. Hoyle was |
|
|
head of the business department and taught business courses at |
|
|
Weston High School in Weston, Massachusetts; named Business |
|
|
Educator of the Year in 1973 by the Massachusetts Business |
|
|
Educators Association, she was published in Business Education |
|
|
World and was a speaker at various professional conferences; she |
|
|
received the Pioneer Award from Southwestern Publishing Company in |
|
|
1991, the year she retired, for her dedication, innovation, |
|
|
leadership, and professional contributions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, Mrs. |
|
|
Hoyle taught Sunday school and was a licensed lay reader; in |
|
|
addition, she joined the International Order of St. Luke the |
|
|
Physician, a Christian healing ministry, and conducted a weekly |
|
|
prayer service in her home for those in need of healing, and she was |
|
|
a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hoyle enjoyed the love and support of her |
|
|
husband, Albert G. Hoyle, whom she married in 1957; the couple |
|
|
traveled extensively over the years, visiting Hawaii, England, |
|
|
Russia, Estonia, Finland, New Zealand, and Australia, among other |
|
|
locales; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Hoyles moved to Alpine in 1991, and Mrs. Hoyle |
|
|
started a local chapter of the Order of St. Luke; she was also |
|
|
active in the Republican Women of the Big Bend and served as a |
|
|
volunteer at the Museum of the Big Bend; moreover, she supported the |
|
|
music program at Sul Ross State University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Thelma Hoyle lived a rich and purposeful life, and |
|
|
she will long be remembered with deep affection by all those who |
|
|
held her dear; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Thelma Ruth Hoyle |
|
|
and extend sincere sympathy to her husband, Albert G. Hoyle, and to |
|
|
her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thelma |
|
|
Hoyle. |
