R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  of Vernon William Sloane, who passed away on March 15, 2011, at the
  age of 84; and
         WHEREAS, Vernon Sloane was born on July 11, 1926, in
  Harlingen; he graduated from La Feria High School in 1944 and went
  on to serve his country as a member of the United States Navy during
  World War II; and
         WHEREAS, In 1947, Mr. Sloane married Lenore Malm, beginning a
  life together that would span more than six decades; the couple were
  blessed with three daughters and later shared in the joy of
  welcoming two grandchildren into their family; Mr. and Mrs. Sloane
  lived in the Rio Grande Valley until 1964, when they relocated to
  Corpus Christi; they made their home there for 40 years before
  retiring to Sun City in Georgetown; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sloane worked for Sunshine Biscuit, and in 1982,
  he became the first director of the Food Bank of Corpus Christi; in
  addition to his career and family responsibilities, he enjoyed
  volunteering and helping those in need; he was an active member of
  the local Masonic Lodge and of the First Baptist Church of Corpus
  Christi and Georgetown, and he served his congregation as a deacon,
  Sunday school teacher, and member of the choir; in his free time, he
  also took pleasure in hunting and was a dedicated follower of Baylor
  University, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Houston Astros; and
         WHEREAS, Known for his generosity, his love of people, and
  his engaging sense of humor, Vernon Sloane lived a life that was
  rich in the intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by
  all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Vernon William
  Sloane and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Lenore Sloane; to his daughters, Sandy Louis and her
  husband, Greg, Patty Burch and her husband, Joe, and Cheri
  Schrader; to his grandchildren, Amy Peeples and her husband, Ryan,
  and Scott Louis; and to his other relatives and many friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vernon
  Sloane.
