R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may |
|
temper the profound sadness felt at the passing of Mary Ruth |
|
Galloway of Waco, who died on February 21, 2011, at the age of 90; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Waco on July 20, 1920, Mary Galloway was a |
|
graduate of Waco High School; she and her husband-to-be, Harold |
|
Galloway, began to consider marriage while he was serving in the |
|
United States Army Air Forces during World War II, and they |
|
exchanged vows in 1944, while he was on a brief leave from his |
|
assignment in England; and |
|
WHEREAS, After the war, they focused on raising their two |
|
children even as Mr. Galloway's military career kept the family on |
|
the move; they lived in California, Brooklyn, and Washington, D.C., |
|
before settling permanently in Waco when he retired; the couple |
|
shared 43 rewarding years together before his passing in 1987; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Galloway took a deep interest in the world |
|
around her; a dedicated traveler, she made numerous trips abroad, |
|
visiting the British Isles, Ireland, and Australia; in addition, |
|
she was a supporter and follower of the arts, attending many local |
|
theater, music, and cultural events, and she volunteered her time |
|
to assist organizations such as the Strecker Museum, the Red Cross, |
|
and Meals on Wheels, while also working as an election judge for |
|
many years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Known for her love of life and her ability to connect |
|
with everyone she met, Mary Galloway touched the lives of many |
|
people with her empathy and generosity of spirit; she was a loving |
|
wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will |
|
forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of those fortunate |
|
enough to have known her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Ruth Galloway |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her |
|
son, Bill Galloway; to her daughter, Ruby Smith; to her brother, Ed |
|
Boles; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Ruth |
|
Galloway. |
