R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, After three rounds of outstanding play against
  determined competition, The University of Texas at El Paso women's
  golf team emerged victorious at the 2011 Conference USA
  Championship, held at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf
  Shores, Alabama; and
         WHEREAS, The three-day tournament began on April 17, and
  after the first round the Miners were tied for first with Southern
  Methodist University at 302; UTEP shot the same combined score the
  next day to maintain a slim lead, and the team improved to 300 on the
  third day for a total of 904; this was enough to top the runner-up
  University of Tulsa golfers by two strokes; and
         WHEREAS, Junior Teresa Nogues won the individual title and
  was named to the All-Conference team, shooting a 71-75-72 for a two
  over par total of 218; Rosana Gomez, who also earned All-Conference
  honors, finished tied for fifth with a 224 and Shang-Fan Huang tied
  for 12th with a 228; also contributing to the UTEP team effort were
  Ana Pastor, who scored 238, and Liz Sobczak, who shot 248; and
         WHEREAS, Under the skilled guidance of coach Jere Pelletier,
  the Miners qualified for the NCAA Championship with their victory
  in the conference tournament, and their achievement is a testament
  to their countless hours of hard work and unwavering commitment to
  excellence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas at El Paso
  women's golf team on winning the 2011 Conference USA title and
  extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
