R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Hereford lost one of their most
  admired business and community leaders with the death of Francis
  Edward Barrett on December 31, 2010, at the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Wendell, Idaho, on October 29, 1922, to Fred
  and May Barrett, Frank Barrett worked on his father's potato farm
  while growing up; he graduated from high school in 1940, and that
  same year he moved with his family to Hereford, where they
  established a farming and shipping business to supply fresh
  potatoes for the summer market; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Barrett earned his bachelor's degree at what is  
  now West Texas A&M University; he took a keen interest in campus
  affairs, winning election as student body president, and he
  continued to actively support the school in later years, serving as
  a member of the board of regents and as president of the alumni
  association; in 1990, he was recognized with the Distinguished
  Alumnus Award for his professional accomplishments and service to
  the university; and
         WHEREAS, A successful farmer and businessman, Mr. Barrett was
  inducted into the Texas Produce Association Hall of Fame in 2004; he
  remained involved in his family's enterprise throughout his life,
  and in 2010 he saw the Barrett farms mark 101 consecutive years of
  potato production; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to helping to guide an extensive
  agricultural operation, Mr. Barrett served on the Hereford City
  Commission and employed his time and talents in myriad other ways in
  behalf of his community; he was also an enthusiastic booster of the
  local schools and athletic programs and was once named as Hereford
  High School Fan of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Frank Barrett married the former Betty Jane Caldwell
  on September 6, 1952, in Canyon; they enjoyed more than 51 rewarding
  years together, until her passing on April 4, 2004, and they were
  blessed with three children, John, Nancy, and Steven, as well as
  five grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan could take pride in a long
  record of constructive endeavors, and those who were privileged to
  share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their
  hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Barrett and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  children and their spouses, John Bruce Barrett and his wife, Cindy,
  Nancy Purcell and her husband, Bill Whitmore, and Steven Frank
  Barrett and his wife, Therese; to his grandchildren, James Barrett,
  Megan Barrett, Jason Purcell, Liam Barrett, and Brennan Barrett;
  and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Francis
  Edward Barrett.
