R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Continuing a notable tradition of basketball
  excellence, the Canyon High School Lady Eagles won the University
  Interscholastic League 4A state championship with a victory in the
  title game on March 5, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Canyon squared off against the squad from Austin LBJ
  High School for the 4A crown, and the two teams engaged in a
  hard-fought duel that came down to the final minutes; in the end,
  tough defense and clutch free throws gave the Lady Eagles the edge,
  as they walked away with a 44-39 triumph; and
         WHEREAS, The win completed a perfect 38-0 season for the
  Canyon High squad, which was rated as the No. 11 team in the nation
  in the USA Today Super 25 rankings; among the highlights were a
  memorable overtime game against Plainview in the regional final
  round of the playoffs and a victory over Ozen High School of
  Beaumont in the state tournament semifinals; the 2010-2011 girls'
  basketball state title is the 15th in school history and the 7th
  since 2000; and
         WHEREAS, In once again proving themselves the finest 4A team
  in Texas, the Lady Eagles received valuable contributions from each
  member of the roster: Candace Herrera, Shayla Monreal, Shawna
  Monreal, Nicole Hampton, Madison Russ, Taylor Macklin, Rhailee
  Sides, Honesty Sullivan, Morgan Dean, Kyndal Davis, Madason
  Johnson, Macy Myrick, Ashton Pedigo, Madison Parker, and Courtney
  Erwin; and
         WHEREAS, These talented athletes were guided by head coach
  Joe Lombard and assistant coaches Johnny Hampton, Bryan Lintner,
  and Taylor Macklin; the team also benefited from the work of trainer
  Todd Bowman, student trainers Charity Johnson and Alyzza Potestas,
  and managers Jayton Welch, Madison Matz, Kim Power, and Shelby
  Casey; and
         WHEREAS, With this latest championship achievement, the
  Canyon High players have furthered their school's reputation as a
  true basketball powerhouse, and each of the Lady Eagles will
  forever cherish her memories of this exceptional season; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Canyon High School girls'
  basketball team on winning the UIL 4A state championship and extend
  to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
