R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Indelible memories of an exuberant and engaging |
|
young man remain to comfort the family and many friends of Drennen |
|
Peter O'Melia, who passed away on June 6, 2010, at the age of 12; and |
|
WHEREAS, The beloved son of Bill and Melissa O'Melia, Drennen |
|
O'Melia was born on August 13, 1997, in Gillette, Wyoming, and moved |
|
with his family to Centennial, Colorado, two years later; he |
|
attended Powell Middle School, where he participated in the gifted |
|
and talented program and was quarterback of the football team; a |
|
natural athlete, he excelled in a number of other sports as well; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Drennen helped the Southglenn Country Club Gators |
|
Swim Team break a record for the boys' 200 freestyle relay at the |
|
Mountain Hi Swim League Championships in 2009 and qualified as a |
|
Gator All-Star two years in a row; in addition, he shot par on the |
|
country club golf course, came in sixth in his age group in the |
|
5-Kilometer High Line Canal Run, and enjoyed snowboarding and |
|
basketball; and |
|
WHEREAS, Friendly, open, and inquisitive, Drennen endeared |
|
himself to many with his ever-present smile and irrepressible good |
|
humor; his wide circle of friends encompassed all ages, and he was |
|
adored not only by his younger siblings, Sean and Quinn, but also by |
|
his longtime buddies, who delighted in his sense of mischief and |
|
fun-loving nature; in early boyhood, he stepped in to end the |
|
bullying of a younger child, and through the years, his teachers and |
|
coaches came to admire his ability to guide and inspire; he was |
|
chosen to take part in a Junior National Young Leaders conference in |
|
Washington, D.C., in the summer of 2010; and |
|
WHEREAS, Fascinated with trivia, Drennen amazed others with |
|
his vast knowledge of obscure facts; he was a fan of 1980s rock |
|
music and University of Wyoming sports teams, and he relished time |
|
with his family at their cabin in his home state; he was also active |
|
in the youth group at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church and sang in the |
|
choir; and |
|
WHEREAS, Drennen O'Melia's untimely death has brought an |
|
immeasurable loss to his loved ones, who will forever carry him |
|
close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Drennen Peter O'Melia |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
parents, Bill and Melissa O'Melia; to his brothers, Quinn and Sean |
|
O'Melia; to his grandparents, Betty O'Melia and Larry and Sue |
|
McGarvin; to his great-grandmother, Vivian Stroud; and to his many |
|
other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Drennen |
|
O'Melia. |
