R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Honorable William "Bill" Yeoman was named the |
|
2009 Citizen of the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce at its |
|
annual gala on February 12, 2010; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Katy Area Chamber of Commerce bestowed this |
|
prestigious honor on Judge Yeoman in recognition of his outstanding |
|
leadership and service to the community; as the Harris County |
|
justice of the peace for Precinct 5, Place 2, Judge Yeoman presided |
|
over approximately 130,000 cases per year in what is perhaps the |
|
largest criminal and civil court in Texas; in meeting the demands of |
|
his office, he drew on a considerable range of skills as he reviewed |
|
civil, small claims, and eviction cases, issued warrants, and |
|
performed weddings and funerals; he earned a reputation for |
|
fairness and for giving each case his utmost respect and attention; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, While sitting on the bench, Judge Yeoman worked |
|
diligently to educate citizens about the law and their rights; he |
|
was also passionate about encouraging an appreciation for the |
|
sacrifices made by the nation's founding fathers and about |
|
promoting the study of the U.S. Constitution; throughout his |
|
tenure, he fought student truancy, recognizing that our entire |
|
society is adversely affected when children fail to receive a |
|
proper education; and |
|
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Harris County, Bill Yeoman |
|
earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Houston; he was |
|
first elected as justice of the peace in 1979, and he served his |
|
community with distinction until he took his well-deserved |
|
retirement in 2010; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife, Terry, and his daughter, Erin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bill Yeoman made significant contributions to the |
|
betterment of Katy and Harris County over the course of his more |
|
than three decades as a public servant, and he may take justifiable |
|
pride in his exceptional record of achievement; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Bill Yeoman on being named |
|
the 2009 Citizen of the Year by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Judge Yeoman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
