R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the loss of
  United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent
  Jaime Jorge Zapata, who was killed on February 15, 2011, at the age
  of 32; and
         WHEREAS, Born on May 7, 1978, in Brownsville to Amador
  Zapata, Jr., and Mary Zapata-Munoz, Jaime Zapata graduated from The
  University of Texas at Brownsville in 2005 with a degree in criminal
  justice; he joined Immigration and Customs Enforcement the
  following year; and
         WHEREAS, Agent Zapata was assigned to the Office of the
  Deputy Special Agent in Charge in Laredo, and served on the Human
  Smuggling and Trafficking Unit as well as the Border Enforcement
  Security Task Force; he recently was detailed to ICE's attache
  office at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City; and
         WHEREAS, A kind and generous individual who enjoyed hunting
  and fishing with his many friends and who cherished his fiancee,
  Stacye Joyner, Agent Zapata was always ready to help those in need;
  he was known for his dedication to duty and to the job he loved; and
         WHEREAS, More than 1,000 mourners gathered at Agent Zapata's
  funeral, including Victor Avila, who survived the attack that
  killed his colleague; speaking at the funeral were Homeland
  Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, U.S. Attorney General Eric
  Holder, and ICE Director John Morton; and
         WHEREAS, Jaime Zapata was a courageous agent who gave his
  life in the line of duty; his heroism remains vivid in the hearts of
  those who cared for him and in the minds of those who remember the
  tragic events of that fateful day; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Immigration and
  Customs Enforcement Special Agent Jaime Jorge Zapata and extend
  sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his parents,
  Amador Zapata, Jr., and Mary Zapata-Munoz; to his fiancee, Stacye
  Joyner; to his brothers, Amador Zapata III and his wife, Claudia,
  Carlos Ismael Zapata and his wife, Claudia, Jose Israel Zapata and
  his wife, Yazmina, and Erick William Zapata; to his aunts and
  uncles, Maria Adelina Guerra and her husband, Raul, Jorge Luis
  Zapata and his wife, Rosa, Alma Diana Canales and her husband,
  Romeo, Alfredo Munoz and his wife, Rosalinda, Felix Munoz and his
  wife, Diana, Norberto Munoz and his wife, Sara, Jose Joaquin Munoz
  and his wife, Rachel, Ralph R. Munoz and his wife, Belinda, and
  Pablo Munoz and his wife, Elda; and to his other relatives and many
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jaime Jorge
  Zapata.
