R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Martha McLeod, a fifth-grade science teacher at the
  Fulton 4-5 Learning Center in Rockport, has been named the state
  recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science
  Teaching; and
         WHEREAS, The nation's highest accolade for teachers, the
  Presidential Award recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers for their
  contributions in the classroom and to their profession; of the many
  educators nominated for the honor, only a small number are chosen to
  advance to the national level, with just one science and one math
  teacher from each state and U.S. jurisdiction ultimately receiving
  the commendation; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran educator with 19 years of experience, Ms.
  McLeod was also named a 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award
  finalist and a 2011 Texas Academy of Science Outstanding Texas
  Educator; moreover, her students recently won an award from the
  Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for a program in which
  they collected scrap metal for recycling to raise funds for science
  and nature projects at the school; and
         WHEREAS, In representing Texas as the state winner of the
  Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, Ms. McLeod
  will receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation and an
  expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend an award ceremony
  and other events; and
         WHEREAS, Martha McLeod has demonstrated the skill,
  knowledge, and enthusiasm that are the hallmarks of our nation's
  best teachers, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious
  honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Martha McLeod on her selection as
  the Texas recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in
  Science Teaching and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued success with her important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. McLeod as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
