R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In a display of strength, skill, and strategy, |
|
Henderson High School senior wrestler Cord Fletcher won the state |
|
championship in the 215-pound weight class at the University |
|
Interscholastic League state tournament in Austin on February 26, |
|
2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, Grappling with a determined Trevor Harris of Bowie |
|
High School in Arlington in the final, Mr. Fletcher came away with |
|
the hard-fought 5-3 victory; this was the second consecutive trip |
|
to the final match for the Henderson High athlete, who finished as |
|
runner-up in 2010; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Fletcher's triumph at the 2011 state tournament |
|
resulted in the first-ever state championship for a wrestler from |
|
East Texas and capped off a spectacular year in which he won 40 of |
|
his 42 matches and brought his overall high school record to 126-16; |
|
in addition to his two trips to the finals, he has been a regional |
|
champion and a two-time District 19 champion and has been chosen to |
|
represent Texas in the 2011 National Tournament; and |
|
WHEREAS, A star in two sports, Mr. Fletcher was a starter on |
|
the Henderson High football team and rushed for a touchdown in the |
|
school's victory in the state title game in December 2010; it was |
|
one of 14 TDs he scored on the season while also recording seven |
|
sacks and forcing four fumbles on defense; with his wrestling win |
|
and the football title, he is the only person in school history to |
|
be involved in two state championships; and |
|
WHEREAS, In proving himself the finest 215-pound high school |
|
wrestler in the State of Texas, this talented student-athlete has |
|
realized a well-deserved reward for his countless hours of hard |
|
work and enduring commitment to excellence, and he may take |
|
justifiable pride in this accomplishment; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Cord Fletcher on winning the UIL |
|
state wrestling championship in the 215-pound weight class and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Fletcher as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
